POSITION SUMMARY

\n

The Physical Therapist is responsible for organizing and conducting physical therapy programs in the acute, subacute, and outpatient setting, to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part.  The Physical Therapist shall be responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice in the provision of the full scope of Physical Therapy services.  While at the same time provide the highest quality healthcare with care and compassion, with a vision that is patient oriented, advanced in technology, of the highest quality, and cost-effective.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS \n

Formal Education / Training:
\n Licensed by the State of Tennessee.
\n Graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy

Workplace Experience:
\n Patient Care Delivery

\n

Equipment and Skills Training:
\n Standard patient care equipment for services provided.  The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in applying basic Physical Therapy knowledge to a variety of setting.  Equipment:  Network Computer System, AT&T Language line.

\n

Physical Environment:
\n May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.  May be exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases.  May work with combative patients.  Will be expected, as directed by supervisor, to provide services for any area in the hospital in which the employee demonstrates competency.

1. Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
\n
2. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable walking.
\n
3. Frequently lifts, positions, transfers, and pushes patients.
\n
4. Frequently walks with patients.
\n
5. Frequently moves supplies and equipment requiring moderate physical effort (lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs.).
\n
6. Manual dexterity and mobility.
\n
7. Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
\n
8. Occasionally removes or replaces supplies or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. from locations at or above shoulder level.
\n
9. Carry patients down three flights of stairs using stretchers or wheelchairs during an evacuation.
\n
10. Must be able to safely maneuver weight of patient.
\n

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

1. Performs initial and ongoing assessments related to patients’ conditions and/or plans of care.
\n
2. Develops and establishes treatment plans based on standards of practice using an interdisciplinary approach with patients, families, and staff.
\n
3. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices consistent with standards established by the American Physical Therapy Association.
\n
4. Progresses patients through levels of treatment effectively and safely to maximize patients’ outcomes.
\n
5. Performs patient and family discharge planning including provision of accurate and pertinent education, establishment of home exercise programs, and submission of appropriate discharge recommendations.
\n
6. Consults with other staff members to coordinate physical therapy services.
\n
7. Participates in the orientation and skill development of new team members.
\n
8. Performs timely, thorough, and complete documentation of patients’ care.
\n
9. Maintains work areas and personal appearance in a way that reflects professionalism and demonstrates cleanliness, orderliness, and safety.
\n
10. Provides direction and guidance to students and technicians.
\n
11. Participates in activities that improve department effectiveness, processes, communication, and/or image in the organization.
\n
12. Manages time and caseloads effectively.
\n
