About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Centralized Registry Float - Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 7am - 7pm Experience: Minimum 2 years License: RN License (IN or Compact) Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Candidate must have at least 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary experience. Candidate must have at least 1 year of Med-Surg experience in a large hospital with over 450 beds. Description: The unit sees a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses, including chronic illnesses such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease. Management of GI issues such as pancreatitis, bleeding, and inflammatory bowel diseases is common. Infections managed may include pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and c-diff. Patients with neurological issues, including stroke and dementia, are also cared for. Mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, are treated as well. Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. General job duties involve providing medical-surgical nursing care. Required skills include assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilization of electronic health records. Familiarity with IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding tubes, and management of heparin and insulin drips is necessary. Equipment utilized includes Epic electronic record, medication dispensing systems, and telemetry monitoring. Floating to other medical units will occur based on needs. Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6. The dress code requires Caribbean blue scrubs. Nursing staff will participate in a comprehensive orientation program, including training on the electronic health record system.
