Human Resources Generalist III - Classification and Compensation

Description St. Louis County Human Resources is seeking an experienced human resources professional to join its team. This position is responsible for technical work related to the development, management, and execution of the County's job classification and compensation programs. The role ensures internal equity, market competitiveness, legal compliance, and alignment with organizational goals. It requires advanced analytical skills, in‑depth knowledge of compensation practices, and the ability to advise leadership on complex compensation matters. Typical starting salary ranges between $55,536 and $66,643.20 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and budgetary considerations. The County offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes affordable health, dental and vision coverage, four weeks of paid time off in the first year, 11 paid holidays, a deferred benefit retirement plan, and additional health‑care, life insurance, disability, and pension options. St. Louis County is a qualified agency for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program managed by the Federal Government. Responsibilities Interpret relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, collective bargaining agreements and procedures, including Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection procedures, FLSA exemption versus non‑exemption, safety regulations, and Missouri Revisor. Support multiple strategic recruitment efforts. Assist in the design of training programs. Perform a variety of administrative and professional work related to classification and compensation; design, administer, analyze, and report job audit and market data. Utilize software such as AutoGoja, Qualtrics, NeoGov, Microsoft Office, and WorkDay to conduct surveys, review applicant information, report data, and analyze data. Develop logical and professional writings in memo, report, or short essay format. Develop recommended solutions for employee grievances. Provide excellent service and attention to customers. Perform related work as required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in human resources or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Prefer candidates with Business Calculus, experience managing a classification or compensation system, and intermediate‑level Excel skills. Selection and Appointment A selection committee evaluates qualifications, recentness and appropriateness of education and experience, responses to supplemental questions, and employment references. Only candidates who possess the most job‑related qualifications are admitted for interview. Interview results constitute 100% of the candidate's earned grade; a minimum qualifying grade of 70 is required for appointment. Following interview, candidates receive a Conviction Questionnaire to complete within three days. The top candidates based on final grade are reviewed by the Department Director/Appointing Authority for final hiring decision. All conditional offers require a urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment, sponsored by the County.
