Job Title: Sheet Metal Technician – Commercial HVAC Installer Job Description

This role focuses on commercial HVAC sheet metal installation for projects based in Palmdale and the greater San Fernando Valley area. You will install and assemble spiral, round, rigid, and flex duct systems, perform duct sealing and insulation, and support hot water piping coils. The position requires strong hands-on experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently on active construction sites, including at height on scissor lifts.

• Install commercial HVAC sheet metal duct systems, including spiral, round, rigid, and flex ducting, according to project specifications and mechanical drawings.
• Measure, cut, and assemble sheet metal ducts to precise dimensions to ensure proper fit, airflow, and system performance.
• Use hand and power tools, including drills and other sheet metal tools, to fabricate, modify, and secure ductwork and related components.
• Perform duct sealing and insulation to maintain system efficiency, prevent air leaks, and meet project and code requirements.
• Install hangers, supports, and insulation to ensure proper support and alignment of duct systems and hot water piping coils.
• Work on scissor lifts, including up to 40-foot lifts, to install ductwork and related components safely at elevated heights.
• Assist with plumbing-related tasks for hot water piping coils, including piping layout, brazing or soldering connections, and ensuring proper support and insulation.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings to understand duct and piping layouts, flow direction, valve placement, and system details.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC duct systems and associated components as needed to resolve performance or installation issues.
• Follow all site safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Arrive on time, ready to work, and complete assigned tasks within the scheduled workday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Travel from the Palmdale base to various jobsites throughout Palmdale and the greater Los Angeles area as project needs require.

• 4–5 years of HVAC sheet metal installation experience in commercial environments.
• Proficiency installing spiral, round, rigid, and flex HVAC ducting systems.
• Demonstrated experience in commercial HVAC duct installation, including layout, assembly, and fastening.
• Ability to measure, cut, and assemble sheet metal ducts to exact specifications with minimal supervision.
• Skilled use of hand and power tools, including drills, for sheet metal fabrication and installation.
• Experience performing duct sealing and insulation to meet performance and code requirements.
• Capability to work safely and effectively on scissor lifts, including up to 40-foot heights, for overhead duct installation.
• Plumbing skills for hot water piping coils, including knowledge of hot water piping systems and proper support methods.
• Ability to braze or solder piping connections for hot water coil installations.
• Experience reading mechanical drawings to understand duct and piping layouts, flow direction, and valve placement.
• Understanding of flow direction, air bleeding, valve placement, and insulation requirements for hot water piping systems.
• Reliable transportation to travel to various jobsites from the Palmdale base.
• Ownership of necessary hand tools, including drills, suitable for HVAC sheet metal work.
• Consistent punctuality, reliability, and a strong work ethic.

• Plumbing experience related to hot water piping, valves, and coil connections.
• Soldering and brazing experience for piping and coil installations.
• Piping experience in commercial mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with ductwork troubleshooting and repair in existing installations.
• Experience installing hangers, supports, and insulation for both duct and piping systems.
• Comfort working on construction sites with changing priorities and multiple trades.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a field installation team on commercial HVAC projects.
• Six-month contract-to-hire arrangement, with the potential to transition to long-term employment based on performance.

This role is based out of Palmdale with projects across Palmdale and the greater Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley areas. The standard schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime work shift. You will work primarily on commercial job sites, often in active construction environments, installing HVAC sheet metal duct systems and hot water piping coils. The work involves frequent use of hand and power tools, including drills, as well as regular work at height on scissor lifts, including up to 40-foot lifts. Field conditions may include varying temperatures, noise levels, and exposure to dust and construction materials. A hard hat, safety vest, work boots, long pants, and a T-shirt are required as part of the jobsite dress code and personal protective equipment. You will need reliable transportation to travel from the Palmdale base to multiple jobsites as needed, and you will work within a contract-to-hire structure over an initial six-month period.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Palmdale, CA.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
