Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care Float - $40-60 per hour

Job Title Registered Nurse (RN) Critical Care Float - 60% FTE (8/12 hour evening/night shift) – UW Hospital, Madison, WI Job Summary UW Health is seeking a RN to float across multiple ICU and intermediate care units at University Hospital in Madison, WI. The role involves providing critical, evidence‑based patient care, mentoring new float pool nurses, and contributing to quality improvement and shared governance. Job ID #48025. Responsibilities Float across multiple departments and specialties caring for highly complex, critically ill patient populations in intensive care units such as Trauma Life Center, Burn ICU, Neurosciences ICU, and Cardiovascular ICU. Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care utilizing critical thinking, assess patients, recognize and expedite complications, and safely administer appropriate nursing interventions and advanced life‑support therapies. Partner with multidisciplinary teams—including nurses, assistants, therapists, advanced practice providers, and medical teams—to demonstrate effective communication and delegation skills. Serve as a mentor and role model, orient nurses new to the Critical Care Float Pool, work with nursing students, and participate in strategic planning, quality improvement, and shared governance. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Minimum six months of inpatient nursing experience or completion of UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program. Licensed Registered Nurse in Wisconsin or a compact jurisdiction. Current CPR/BLS certification; ACLS certification within six months of hire. Relevant certification preferred. Compensation and Benefits Shift differentials: $4.25/hour for float, $4/hour evening, $5/hour night, and $4.25/hour weekend as applicable. Overtime compensation available. Full‑time benefits eligible for 60% FTE and higher positions.
