Senior Accounting Manager

Overview A publicly traded, mission-driven organization headquartered in downtown Chicago is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting operations, lead a high-performing team, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment. This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to the CAO and senior finance leadership, ideal for a technically strong CPA who enjoys building teams, improving processes, and operating at the intersection of accounting excellence and organizational transformation. What You'll Do Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across assigned areas including revenue accounting, accrual accounting, and operational accounting Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analyses Contribute to the preparation and review of quarterly and annual SEC filings including Forms 10-Q and 10-K, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements Partner with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, HR, and operational leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and strategic decision-making Coordinate with and support external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits Ensure compliance with SOX, internal controls, GAAP standards, and organizational policies Support ERP implementations, system upgrades, and integration of new controls and processes Serve as a change agent proposing and implementing improvements to accounting policies, procedures, and controls Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team; establish clear goals, oversee workflow planning, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree preferred CPA required 7+ years of progressive accounting experience including 3+ years in a managerial role Strong knowledge of US GAAP including revenue recognition, leases, and credit losses Public accounting firm experience preferred Strong systems and process improvement mindset Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Why This Role Stands Out High visibility to the CAO and senior finance leadership Meaningful leadership role with real team development responsibility Public company environment with broad SEC reporting exposure Strong benefits from day one including 6% 401K match and tuition reimbursement Collaborative, down-to-earth team culture in a growth-oriented organization Hybrid flexibility in downtown Chicago #J-18808-Ljbffr Buckingham Search
