Job Summary / Purpose Manages the gas distribution functions for a specific service area. Responsible for operation and maintenance of the underground distribution system, customer service, and accounting activities to ensure dependable gas service is supplied to all customers. Represents the company in the community, maintains effective customer relations, and provides a high-profile presence with active community involvement. Accountabilities and Essential Functions Monitor operations and accounting activities to ensure consistent compliance with regulatory requirements and tariffs, operating standards, company policies, guidelines, and processes Ability to gauge and satisfy customer expectations when making business decisions Ability to identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking Ability to make sound business decisions Ability to anticipate new situations and/or changing demands and respond proactively to enhance the company’s performance Ability to use initiative, good judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks Ability to collaborate across functional boundaries to improve business processes Ability to utilize mainframe systems (Oracle), electronic mail, and personal computer software (MS Windows, Excel, Word) proficiently Ability to recognize technical issues with relative ease Ability to prioritize and schedule tasks, manage several projects at one time, pay attention to detail, and demonstrate good organizational skills Ability to work successfully in a team environment or individually Ability to comprehend, explain, teach, design, and implement processes, policies, and procedures Must have knowledge of company functions and reasoning behind key policies, practices, and procedures Must have knowledge of accounting and business operations at area office level Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other company policies and procedures consistently; able to take all required training courses by required deadlines Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the company’s values and business practices consistently Cultivate relationships with business leaders, elected officials, community contacts, and appointed regulatory staff members to achieve business results Investigate fire and explosion sites to evaluate the extent of company liability and protect against possible fraudulent property damage claims Make speeches and presentations to elected officials, community groups, and employees Able to operate a personal computer, either a desktop or laptop. Minimum Requirements Minimum Education Required Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in business administration, marketing, engineering, or related field In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of experience in one of: gas operations, accounting, engineering, or related field. Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in one of the following: gas operations, accounting, engineering, or related field, including a minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership capacity. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and enact change; ability to lead and participate in problem solving teams as required Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills; listening ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, the community, and regulators Manage the gas distribution functions for operation and maintenance of the underground distribution system; may direct individual employees and crews or may manage supervisor of service, construction and maintenance, and/or operations Ability to cultivate relationships and partner with business and community contacts to achieve business results Physical Requirements Able to sit for extended periods of time. Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment. Able to exert up to 10 lb of force occasionally and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or move objects. Working Conditions Able to work in fast paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines. Able to work in a normal office environment with occasional travel to off-site locations and stay overnight as required. Able to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts. Able to work more than 40 hours per week as required to meet established deadlines and accomplish objectives. Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
