Overview:
We are seeking an Environmental Health Scientist to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA . The CDC is at the front lines of public health threats to Americans and serves the American public who rely on accurate data, health guidance, and preventive measures. *This is a forecasted position, and it is contingent upon contract award.Responsibilities:
Provide expert analysis of environmental data associated with uncontrolled hazardous waste sites and controlled hazardous waste facilities.
Evaluate environmental data for quality assurance/quality control, completeness, and relevance.
Provide scientific expertise to assess site-specific public health impacts of identified hazardous substances and develop appropriate responses for health consultations requested by Federal, state and local agencies, and the public.
Provide environmental health and technical advice and appropriate recommendations regarding potential human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure to hazardous substances.
Assist with the development of public and petition health assessments.
Based on analysis, appraise the impact of chemicals at sites on exposure pathways and evaluate proposed contamination cleanup procedures and alternatives.
Attend technical assistance site visits and public meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a master's degree in public health with at least one year of experience in the public health field. A PhD or work towards a PhD in a related field (epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, etc.) is preferred.
- Knowledge of environmental health principles, including exposure pathways and the evaluation of potential human health impacts associated with hazardous substances and environmental contamination.
Ability to analyze and interpret environmental data, assess data quality and relevance, and translate scientific findings into clear, evidence-based public health recommendations. - Must demonstrate strong writing skills (i.e., at least 2 published first-author or co-authored manuscripts (first-author manuscripts highly preferred) in peer reviewed journals)).
- Must have intermediate or advanced experience using statistical software (SAS, STATA, or R).
- Previous experience using data from surveillance systems (NHANES, BRFSS, NHIS), vital statistics, or large healthcare datasets (electronic health records, claims or administrative data) is highly preferred.
