Volunteer Manager

This role is responsible for recruiting, engaging, scheduling, training, and recognizing volunteers while building strong relationships with individuals, corporate groups, and community partners. The Volunteer Manager will also lead volunteers for ACO’s programs, and managing each program from planning through completion. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys people, organization, problem-solving, and making a meaningful impact in the community. Key Responsibilities Recruit, onboard, schedule, train, and retain volunteers across ACO programs and events. Build strong, positive relationships with volunteers and create a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and appreciation. Develop and maintain effective volunteer systems, policies, procedures, and communication. Work with department leaders to identify volunteer needs and ensure appropriate coverage. Manage corporate and community volunteer groups and create meaningful volunteer opportunities. Address volunteer concerns and challenges professionally and proactively. Special Programs: Manage the planning and execution of major ACO programs with ACO staff, including Holiday Food Distribution, School Supplies, North Pole, and other events. Manage volunteer needs for events from start to finish, including planning, timelines, volunteer recruitment and scheduling, training, setup, event-day operations, and teardown. Coordinate supplies, equipment, materials, signage, and other resources needed for each event. Work with staff, donors, vendors, corporate groups, and community partners to ensure successful events. Provide hands‑on leadership during events, anticipate challenges, and solve problems as they arise. Evaluate each event and identify opportunities for improvement. Community Engagement: Develop relationships with businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations, and other community partners to expand ACO’s volunteer base. Represent ACO professionally in the community and help strengthen awareness of our mission. Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions and communicate the impact of their service. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3+ years of experience in volunteer management, event management, nonprofit leadership, community engagement, program management, or a related field. Strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills. Experience leading, motivating, and coordinating people, as well as speaking to groups. Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain calm in a fast‑paced environment. Strong problem‑solving skills and professional judgment. Comfortable taking a hands‑on approach when needed. Special Requirements: Requires occasional weekends and/or evenings.
