Library Operations and Collection Management Specialist

This position requires adherence to security protocols and federal facility standards while providing professional library services to support analytical staff.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLibrary OperationsOpen and close library vault daily following established security protocolsProvide reference and research assistance to analysts and authorized usersRespond to information requests and facilitate access to resourcesCollection ManagementManage circulation, routing, and tracking systems for all physical holdingsMaintain accurate records of materials check-out, location, and statusImplement Sponsor-approved approaches to improve discoverability of physical holdingsSupport analysts' timely access to hard-copy materials and collectionsConduct regular collection inventory and shelf management activitiesCollection MaintenancePerform routine collection inventory and shelf-readingPrepare weeding and disposition actions in accordance with authorized policiesExecute materials routing and redistribution as neededMaintain collection organization consistent with professional library standards and Sponsor guidanceGenerate reports on collection usage, gaps, and maintenance activitiesRequired QualificationsEducationMaster of Library Science (MLS), Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institutionOR Bachelor's degree with significant library operations experience (5+ years)ExperienceMinimum 2-3 years of professional library experienceDemonstrated experience with circulation systems and physical collection managementKnowledge of library cataloging and classification systems (LC or Dewey)Clearance and SecurityCurrent Top Secret Clearance with PolygraphTechnical SkillsProficiency with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) or Library Management SystemsExperience with circulation and tracking databasesStrong computer skills including Microsoft Office SuiteFamiliarity with document management and workflow systemsAbility to learn specialized government library systemsProfessional CompetenciesKnowledge of professional library standards and best practicesUnderstanding of collection development and weeding principlesStrong organizational and time management abilitiesExcellent attention to detail and accuracyAbility to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive materialsCommunication SkillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to document processes and procedures clearlyProfessional customer service skillsAbility to work effectively with analysts and researchersPreferred QualificationsExperience in special, government, or corporate library environmentsFamiliarity with intelligence community or federal library operationsExperience with secure/classified materials handlingKnowledge of records management principlesExperience implementing discovery tools or digital cataloging enhancementsProject management experiencePhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods at reference deskCapability to lift and move materials up to 25-40 poundsAbility to reach, bend, and shelve materials at various heightsVisual acuity for detailed catalog and reference workAbility to work in a vault/secure environment with limited natural lightSalary & BenefitsThe salary associated with this position ($99,000-$206,000) is commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, and demonstrated level of expertise.
