The Position: Patent Agent / Senior Patent Agent

Reporting to the Chief Operating & Business Officer, the Patent Agent / Senior Patent Agent will be a key leader in driving our intellectual property (IP) activities, including partnering with internal scientists and outside counsel to draft applications, prosecute patents, and set strategy. The ideal candidate for this role has a scientific background and relevant IP experience. Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead the drafting of patent applications, independently analyzing research and collaborating with scientists to protect all aspects of Dualitas’ inventions.

• Conduct and oversee prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses, providing critical insights and risk assessments that support future research and development.

• Analyze technological and scientific components of Dualitas’ inventions to provide patentability assessments to facilitate execution of business strategies, maximize intellectual property protection under the law, and minimize risk.

• Support corporate transactions by performing due diligence, evaluating IP and providing assessments in consideration of any liabilities or validity concerns.

• Run IP landscape analyses to identify trends and opportunities within specific technological domains based on individual business cases.

• Independently oversee Dualitas’ patent portfolios, solely managing dockets and engaging with outside counsel to devise and execute strategies.

Qualifications

We seek candidates who are team-oriented, collegial, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills with the following education and technical experience:

• Minimum B.S. in biological sciences related discipline. Ph.D. strongly preferred.

• USPTO patent bar membership, ensuring the ability to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

• Minimum 3+ years of experience as a patent agent in a law firm or the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry.

• Strong analytical skills with a solid foundation in life sciences.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

• Experience collaborating with outside counsel to manage an corporate patent portfolio and devise patent strategy.

Compensation

The annual base pay range for this position is $128,500 - $153,000 and will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, skills and competencies. The pay range reflects the Manager and Sr. Manager levels. F Title and compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience. This role is eligible for annual performance bonuses, equity grants, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement plan, paid time off, and other employee programs.
