Position Overview CAPS is a member of the Division of Student Affairs, where "We make learning possible." In collaboration with our colleagues across campus, we prepare students to succeed through personal development, peer engagement, lifelong learning, and social responsibility. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is comprised of the Clinical Service and Campus Assistance, Resource, and Education (CARE) teams. We are an interdisciplinary team of professionals that work collaboratively to meet the diverse mental health needs of a global student community. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with clinical, educational and outreach-based services that benefit the mental health and well‑being of all Jayhawks. Our services are primarily short‑term in nature, and we make referrals to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate. Members of the counseling center are committed to: A nurturing, supportive community Growth oriented accountability Embracing compassion in all situations Using evidenced‑based quality of care Position Summary The Psychologist, working closely with the Associate Director for Training, is a member of the CAPS team who provides clinical services, including individual and group therapy, workshops, outreach and clinical supervision. This position also contributes to all of CAPS functional areas, including: Individual and group counseling of KU students/clients; psychological assessment; Development of and participation in outreach programming, including workshops Consultation with faculty, staff, parents, and others General administrative responsibilities Training and supervision of CAPS clinical trainees Other duties as assigned Job Description 60% - Student/Client Direct Services: Provision of primary, secondary, and tertiary counseling services to eligible members of the KU community within the CAPS scope of service. Performs initial consultation evaluations (routine, urgent, and crisis) based on the referring problem. Evaluations focus on arriving at a preliminary diagnosis, an integrated treatment plan, or appropriate referral. Provide consultation within the legal boundaries of release‑of‑information. Consistent with CAPS Policy & Procedure manuals, develop individualized treatment plan based on an investigation of empirically supported treatment options, make appropriate referrals, and accurately document treatment provided. 10% - Training and Supervision: Provides training and supervision to graduate students‑in‑training including psychology interns and practicum students. Provides direct supervision, participates in professional seminars, and participates in development of training curriculum and other training activities. 10% - Outreach and Prevention: Provides outreach and prevention activities including consultation to faculty, administration, and other staff regarding student adjustment, mental health, and development issues. Develops and presents programs designed to increase awareness and educate students about important issues such as personal development, stress management, ADHD, prevention, and adjustment to college life. 10% - Administrative Tasks and Meetings: Be an active, respectful, and engaged member of CAPS teams and work groups. Actively seek to improve services to eligible members of the KU community. Attend staff and other assigned meetings/committees. 10% - Professional Development & Peer Consultation: Attend staff and other assigned clinical meetings/committees. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program conferred by start date and one year of related professional experience. Successful completion of APA accredited doctoral internship in Psychology. Permanent or temporary licensure as a psychologist in the state of Kansas within 2 years of hiring date. Strong interpersonal skills, as evidenced by application materials. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market‑driven expectations.
