Position Summary The Molecular Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Staff Technologist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, an empathetic and instructional approach to patient contact, care and monitoring; the procurement, preparation, quality control, dispensing, dose calibration, administration and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals; the administration of pharmaceuticals including adjunct oral and IV medications and contrast under the direction of an authorized user; the performance of quality control procedures; and the operation of imaging, laboratory and computer instrumentation. Responsibilities Operate gamma cameras with sealed radioactive sources for transmission imaging including SPECT, PET, PEM, and perform diagnostic CT, Diagnostic MR, and X‑ray tube–based bone density scans. Perform in‑vivo diagnostic testing involving procurement, preparation, quality control, dispensing, dose calibration of radiopharmaceuticals and oral, inhalation, or intravenous administration. Conduct laboratory tests, handle radiopharmaceuticals and adjunct non‑radioactive chemicals safely, and manipulate specimens for analysis within the nuclear pharmacy. Operate laboratory equipment such as scales, centrifuges, pipettes, flow hoods, Xenon traps, well counters, probes and other detection devices to measure biodistribution of radiopharmaceuticals. Collect and analyze samples for laboratory procedures including urine, blood, creatinine, secretions, saliva, breath, and stool. Assist in the application, management, preparation and administration of radiotherapeutic procedures and non‑radiopharmaceutical agents by oral, topical and intravenous routes under supervision of an authorized user. Prepare patients for exams, ensure patient comfort and modesty, and accommodate patient needs and staffing needs through flexible scheduling. Follow requisition protocols to provide proper studies, complete requisitions and interview questionnaires, and gather necessary patient information. Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients, monitor tissue or organ function, observe metabolic changes, and conduct additional imaging or technique variations as requested. Document procedures including ICD‑9 codes and patient demographics for accurate billing. Participate in IV line placement, blood glucose monitoring, pharmaceutical and radiopharmaceutical training, and pass all required competencies. Maintain current licenses, registrations and certifications; complete NIH Human Subjects Protection training and re‑certify biannually. Follow infection control, safety procedures, federal, state and BMC regulations, perform radiation safety training and comply with radioactive contamination monitoring and waste disposal. Assist in equipment maintenance, vendor interaction and managed care guideline adherence to maximize equipment uptime and minimize costs. Provide patient‑focused customer service, communicate patient complaints professionally, handle telephone requests, and maintain patient confidentiality. Mentor student technologists, teach protocols, IV placement, and evaluate student performance in fusion imaging and record production. Perform duties as required in all department areas across BMC campuses when needed. Education Requires a Bachelor of Science in a scientific field with a certificate in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program or an Associate in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program plus 2years of experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Current registration in Nuclear Medicine (NMTCB or ARRT (NM)). At least one advanced certification: NMTCB(PET), NMTCB(NCT), ARRT(CT), or ARRT(MR). Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License. NIH Human Subjects Protection in Research Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR. Experience Experience in Molecular/Nuclear Imaging preferred (SPECT/CT/PET/MR/Optical fusion Imaging). Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy and medical terminology with analytical skills for imaging processes. Working knowledge of Nuclear Medicine Information System (NMIS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS). Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, solve problems, and respond quickly to emergency requests. Positive, team‑oriented attitude and professional appearance. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction, student instruction, and collaboration with staff technologists. Compensation $49.88 – $63.27 per hour, based on qualifications, education, experience, and specific certifications.
