Position Summary

The Business Manager oversees the day-to-day business and administrative operations of the school district. This is a hands-on position responsible for a wide range of financial, payroll, human resources, purchasing, benefits, and administrative functions.

Because of the size of our district, this position plays a vital role in keeping the district running smoothly and requires someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities at once.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the district's accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoices, payments, receipts, and financial records.
• Process and manage purchase orders and purchasing for the district, including obtaining quotes, ordering supplies and services, and maintaining vendor relationships.
• Coordinate and process monthly payroll, including timesheets, deductions, leave, supplemental pay, and required reporting.
• Handle day-to-day human resources functions, including employee records, onboarding, employment documentation, and personnel changes.
• Administer employee benefits and assist staff with enrollment, insurance questions, benefit changes, and annual open enrollment.
• Monitor district expenditures and assist with budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and compliance requirements.
• Maintain accurate and confidential financial, payroll, personnel, and vendor records.
• Work with the Superintendent, administrators, employees, vendors, Education Service Center, auditors, and governmental agencies on district business matters.
• Maintain and update the district website and assist with district communications and required postings.
• Ensure business operations follow district policies and applicable state and federal requirements.
• Track important deadlines and reporting requirements and ensure documents are completed and submitted timely.
• Assist with board-related financial and business documentation.
• Provide support to employees and administration on payroll, benefits, purchasing, and general business office questions.
• Perform other administrative and operational duties as needed to support the district.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in business, accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field preferred.
• Experience in accounting, payroll, human resources, purchasing, or school business operations preferred.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing needs.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Google/Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, accounting/payroll software, and other technology.
• Knowledge of Texas school district operations and requirements is preferred.

What We're Looking For:

We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, resourceful, and willing to wear many hats. In a small school district, no two days are exactly alike. The Business Manager must be comfortable moving from payroll to purchasing, from employee benefits to invoices, and from financial reporting to administrative projects, often all in the same day.

The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, pays attention to the details, solves problems independently, and understands that every part of the business office contributes to the success of our students and staff.


The current Business Manager will be available through the end of November to provide hands-on training and support during the transition. This will allow the selected candidate to learn the district's processes, systems, responsibilities, and day-to-day operations directly from the current Business Manager before assuming the position independently.
