Phlebotomist

Responsibilities Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors, including performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection: donor set‑up, monitoring, and disconnect. Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process in compliance with FDA guidelines. Evaluate donor vein performance to identify potential problems and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Educate new donors on therapeutic products, screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information; respond to donor questions accurately and professionally. Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff. Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during pheresis, such as machine alerts, volume variances, and donor adverse events. Perform calibrations, verify maintenance, respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues. Troubleshoot equipment failures; create incident documentation, remove or replace equipment from service. Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover; alert leadership of flow issues. Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing. Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs. Understand policies and procedures for hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable. Maintain a clean, efficient work environment; ensure sufficient supplies and forms; follow HSE and OSHA policies and promote safety. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information. May be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs. Bilingual skills may be required at the discretion of the organization. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 12 months experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Local Qualifications (California) Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR Current Registered Nurse by the State of California. Compensation The expected base pay for this position at hiring is $18.68 per hour – $22.10 per hour. Individual base pay within this range is determined by qualifications, skill level, experience, competencies and other relevant factors.
