RN (Registered Nurse)

ICU Night Shift Registered NurseThis position is for nights only. The unit has 18 beds, expanding to 27 by June/July 2023. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 to 2, sometimes 1 to 3. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. Preferred certifications are PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC. Common diagnoses include critically ill patients with complex needs, sepsis, acute MI, renal patients, post-vascular procedures, strokes, TIA, seizures, lumbar drains, ARDS, and CV procedures. The age population served is adolescent, adult, and geriatric. ICU experience, CRRT, IABP, Impella, and two years of critical care experience are required. RNs are required to titrate drips such as Levophed, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin, and Insulin. The charge nurse is primarily without patients, and the house supervisor is available 24/7. Nurse aids are not present on this unit. Hospitalists are available 24/7, but intensivists are not always present. RT equipment includes BiPap, CPAP, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, IV pumps, and sequential compression devices. Tele is available, with RNs reading strips. Shifts are from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am, with every other weekend requirement and rotational holiday rotation. There is no call or standby requirement, but floating to stepdown, med-surg, or telemetry is required. Scrub color is navy for RN/LPN and dark grey/pewter for CNAs/monitor techs. Orientation includes general hospital orientation, nursing orientation, computer training, and two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor.
