RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Minnesota Nurses Association is seeking a mission-driven communicator passionate about the labor movement and committed to building the collective power of nurses through strategic digital organizing and advocacy. 

The Digital Communications Organizer plays a critical role in identifying, developing, and mobilizing members to participate in MNA’s campaigns, advocacy efforts, and union activities. The ideal candidate understands that organizing is essential to effective communications, is energized by helping workers build power, and can translate complex campaigns into compelling digital content that moves people to action. 

This role is a member of the Communications team and works closely with the Lead Communications Specialist, Internal Communications and Public Relations Specialists, and under the Director of Public Affairs. 

Primary Job Duties:

• Identify, recruit, and empower MNA members to serve as advocates and storytellers to amplify campaigns and priorities online 
• Build and maintain a network of engaged nurse leaders and digital activists to strengthen MNA’s digital presence and organizing efforts
• Manage MNA’s social media channels to engage members and ensure message consistency across platforms
• Implement digital engagement strategies to increase member participation, cultivate member voices, and move members from awareness to action
• In collaboration with the Communications team, adapt messaging developed by the team lead for digital platforms, prioritizing identified audiences
• Work across the organization to plan, produce, and post content, including video, for bargaining campaigns, elections, legislative issues, nurse education, and field organizing
• Develop and maintain digital content calendars 
• Plan and implement limited paid digital campaigns 
• Maintain and update MNA’s website and other digital properties 
• Research and evaluate social media channels and their impact
• Train members and staff to effectively engage members across digital platforms

Secondary Job Duties:

• Serve as videographer and photographer at MNA events, as needed
• Write and edit clear and persuasive content for various audiences and formats
• Serve as backup for other members of the Communications team 
• Work in collaboration with other departments staffing picket lines, doing direct voter contact and other duties as needed during contract negotiations, elections, campaigns, and other key organizational events
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or other relevant areas of study and
• (3) years of experience in Digital Organizing or an equivalent of five (5) years combined in both Organizing and Digital Communications
• Expertise in digital communication and organizing tools including social media, web, texting, email, and advocacy platforms
• Experience using reporting tools, like Facebook Insights and Google Analytics, to provide strategic reports and direction to optimize digital organizing efforts
• Experience using social listening tools, like Hoot Suite and Meltwater, to gather audience insights and inform campaign planning
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) campaigns
• Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite tools
• Website design skills, using HTML and Content Management Systems (CMS)
• Basic website editing experience in Elementor and WordPress

OR 

• A combination of education and experience that demonstrates an applicant’s knowledge of digital organizing.

AND a combination of the following.

• Demonstrated experience in additional communications disciplines such as graphics, media relations, and internal communications
• Experience developing and executing integrated communications campaigns that align with broad organizational campaigns
• Demonstrated experience in creating and placing digital ads
• Understanding of roles within a labor union including but not limited to legislative advocacy, contract enforcement, and external organizing 
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of labor unions, nursing, or healthcare issues

Work/life balance is prioritized; however, the ability to work weekends, irregular hours, and travel may be required. Transportation is required.

SALARY: Per MNASO Local 1, Unit 2 Contract Agreement. A salary range of $89,814 – $93,413, dependent on experience, with generous benefits including defined benefit pension, 401K matching, 100% employer-paid single and low-cost family health insurance coverage, 20 vacation, 12 sick, and 3 personal days, along with 12 paid holidays annually.

This position is housed primarily in the MNA office in St. Paul, MN, but may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (2 days at home, 3 days in the office) upon successful completion of probation.
