Growing together.Primary Responsibilities:Patient Care Functions:Interviews patients regarding medical concernsMeasures and documents vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and heightDocuments patient reported health issues in EMRObtains and documents patient medical historiesPerforms routine, in-scope, medical procedures as requestedPrepares patients and treatment rooms for examsDrapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipmentCleans and sterilizes instrumentsMaintains a clean work areaKeeps exam rooms cleaned and stocked with needed medical suppliesReviews physician orders and lab requests and follows up as neededCommunicates test results to patients as directedProcesses prescriptions as approved and directedAssists in patient education with approved educational tools, periodicals, flyers, and handoutsAssists with Department of Transportation, FMLA, and Medical Disability application formsManages/responds to patient phone calls and patient portal messagesMaintains all Practice Health and Safety standardsAdministrative Functions:Inputs data into the computer to maintain patient recordsRoutes necessary paperwork associated with patient referralsContacts other medical practices as needed to make referralsInventories and orders medical supplies and materialsPre-certifies exams and collects pre-certifications from managed careFaxes reportsPerforms daily refrigerator temperature checks and maintains accurate logsLaboratory Functions:Performs CLIA waived testingAssembles equipment such as tourniquets, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work trays according to the requirements for specified tests or proceduresVerifies or records the identity of the patient or donorInterprets the physician's orders and secures a requisition before performing testsObtains the correct type and amount of specimen, as directed by the physician, nurse, or managerDraws blood from the patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samplesLabels, routes, and/or stores specimens for subsequent processingRecords all blood draws in the lab register; marks when results are received; records resultsGives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory testsReports test results to physicians, notifying them of any abnormalitiesDocuments all requests and results of lab work accuratelyRecords on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed for the equipmentCleans and stocks the phlebotomy areaSurgery Functions:Assists in proceduresMeasures and documents vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and heightHands instruments and materials to the physician as directedCleans/sterilizes instrumentation between casesReturns clean/sterilized equipment to its locationRegularly checks trays, instrumentation and sterile equipment for outdated or compromised package integrityAssists in movement and positioning of patients, utilizing appropriate body mechanicsAssists with clean-up of trash and linen by using appropriate antibacterial solutionEnsures specimens are labeled and packaged appropriately with requisition and delivered to appropriate area for processingPerforms daily/weekly Quality Assurance testing and maintains documentation logsWashes/decontaminates and assures presence of all instrumentation in trayPrepares for safe processing and storage of small or peel-pouched suppliesOther Functions:Attends meetings and participates on committees as requestedAttends and completes assigned trainingPerforms other related duties and responsibilities as directed Complies with OSHA regulationsComplies with all company policies and procedures regarding HIPAA and handling of PHIComplies with all company policies and procedures regarding handling of cash or other paymentsAssists provider by documenting quality measures within EMRSpecial projects (i.e. engagement committee, PHS subsection lead, 'own' one quality measure for an office, office 'buddy', Culture Committee)You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Medical Assistant (CMA) certification5+ years of AHN/Optum experience as an MAExemplary clinical skills and ability to partner well with providers in a care teamPreferred Qualification:CPR certificationKnowledge, Skills, And Abilities:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorilyReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsKnowledge of current medical terminology to perform various tests and procedures, complete medical records, and communicate with physicians, staff, and patientsKnowledge of equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentationKnowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize hazardous conditionsAbility to read and understand information about instrumentation in the medical fieldAbility to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memosAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceAbility to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations;
