Position Function - Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, responsible for the supervision of the lifeguards and their duties, for assisting in the support and enforcement of rules and regulations, for the safety of the patrons in and around the pool and maintenance of the indoor/outdoor pool facilities. Ensures all lifeguards are competent in performing water rescue procedures and assisting in the training, scheduling and appraising of lifeguards. % of Performance Performs assigned duties necessary for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment by taking pool chemical readings and adjusting chemical levels when necessary. Writing monthly schedules for lifeguards, as well as supervising the daily activities of the lifeguards, including rotation, finding replacements for absent guards, monitoring the number of guards needed, position of guard stands, use of safety equipment and behavior and professionalism of guard staff. Ensuring the cleanliness of pool deck, locker rooms, and restrooms of both indoor/outdoor pools. Testing and maintaining primary pool chemicals as well as ensuring the facility and pool water are clean. Maintaining rescue skills at audit quality levels and keeping physically fit.45% Writing monthly schedule for lifeguards, including open sessions, rentals, and in-service meetings. Assist Aquatic Supervisor with in-service training and/or Lifeguard Certification classes. Maintain records, including incident reports, oxygen, AED and work hour logs, lifeguard time cards, daily chemical readings, disciplinary action, daily revenue envelopes, weekly inventory of supplies.25% Attend mandatory meetings and in-service training as directed by the Aquatics Supervisor. Environment Duties are generally performed in an office and indoor/outdoor pool environment. Possible exposure to dust, mold, pool chemicals, some hazardous chemicals, humidity , wet environments, and electricity. Duties may also require prolonged periods of outdoor activities which may produce exposure to inclement weather and allergens. Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 1-year related work experience.Must be 17 years of age.American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (including CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration and Water park)Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) license is preferred, but not required. Individuals who receive their Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) license at the City's expense will be required to teach a minimum of five (5) classes or must reimburse the City for the cost of the training.Knowledge of pool safety, how to be proactive about accidents and the appropriate methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.Work requires the ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.Work requires the ability to demonstrate professional public relations skills, effective interpersonal skills and ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.Work requires the ability to pass rescue skills and first aid proficiency test as well as swim for long distances, minimum 300 yards.Work requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.Work requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, ability to deal with problems and to manage large numbers of part-time staff.Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
