Location: (100% Remote) Summary & Role Description
The Senior Software Engineer (AI) is a hands-on contributor within the Workflow Orchestration Initiative, responsible for building intelligent backend services that enhance enterprise workflow and automation solutions using workflow orchestration platforms such as Appian.
This role requires strong Java and enterprise development experience, complemented by Python and AI/ML skills. You will work closely with Java software engineers on shared platforms and services to support the Payment BU Workflow Intelligence and Optimization Initiative. This includes contributing to the design and implementation of AI-enabled components and backend services that support workflow orchestration and decision automation.

The Senior Software Engineer (AI) is a hands-on contributor within the Workflow Orchestration Initiative, responsible for building intelligent backend services that enhance enterprise workflow and automation solutions using workflow orchestration platforms such as Appian.
This role requires strong Java and enterprise development experience, complemented by Python and AI/ML skills. You will work closely with Java software engineers on shared platforms and services to support the Payment BU Workflow Intelligence and Optimization Initiative. This includes contributing to the design and implementation of AI-enabled components and backend services that support workflow orchestration and decision automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Development: Design and develop Java-based backend services and APIs that integrate with workflow orchestration platforms (e.g., Appian).
- AI/ML Implementation: Implement AI/ML-enabled capabilities such as classification, extraction, recommendations, and decision support using Python and enterprise AI frameworks.
- Microservices: Develop and maintain microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.
- Integration: Partner with data engineering teams to access and validate data for AI use cases; support model integration and inference pipelines in production.
- Collaboration: Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience: 10+ years of enterprise software development experience, specifically with backend systems.
- Technical Stack: Strong proficiency in Java (Spring Boot / Spring Cloud) and hands-on experience with Python for AI/ML integration.
- Database: Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
- APIs: Strong understanding of RESTful API design and service security.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with BPM or workflow orchestration platforms (Appian, Camunda, or JBPM).
- Background in Healthcare IT or payment integrity.
- Exposure to MLOps practices and model lifecycle management.
