Registered Nurse Operating Room

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room is responsible for providing skilled nursing care with a focus on trauma, neuro, vascular, and orthopedic specialties. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced acute care hospital setting. The nurse will support surgical procedures, manage patient safety, and provide care before, during, and after operations. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care in the Operating Room, including trauma, neuro, vascular, and orthopedic cases.
• Perform patient assessments and administer medications as prescribed.
• Plan and implement treatment strategies in collaboration with surgeons and healthcare team members.
• Maintain patient safety and monitor vital signs during surgical procedures.
• Document patient care accurately using Epic charting system.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case management discussions.
• Float between like units as needed to support staffing requirements.
• Respond to on-call shifts, including nights, evenings, and weekends, as scheduled.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license valid in the state of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in trauma, neuro, vascular, or orthopedic nursing.
• BLS certification required.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.
• Previous Operating Room or surgical nursing experience.
• Additional certifications related to perioperative nursing (e.g., CNOR).

Special Considerations:

• On-call requirement with call distributed equally among nursing staff every 6 weeks, including nights, evenings, and weekends (up to 6-8 shifts per period).
• May need to cover one night shift within contract as needed.
• Floating between similar units is required.
• Block scheduling accommodations are at manager discretion.
• Must have trauma, neuro, vascular, and orthopedic experience due to trauma status of the facility.

Scheduling:

• Variable start times at 7:00 AM or 9:00 AM.
• Weekend work is required.
• Shift lengths typically 8 hours.
• Schedule assignments may include day, evening, or night shifts depending on on-call rotation and unit needs.
