The first outcropping of rocks along the riverbanks above its mouth on the south bank came to be known as the La Petite Roche -- "Little Rock. " The city of Little Rock was incorporated just over 100 years later.

McClellan Veterans Affairs Medical Center The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS), a flagship Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare provider, is one of the largest and busiest VA medical centers in the country. Its two hospitals, located in Little Rock and North Little Rock, anchor a broad spectrum of inpatient and outpatient healthcare services, ranging from disease prevention through primary care, to complex surgical procedures, to extended rehabilitative care.

This System serves as a teaching facility for more than 1,500 students and residents enrolled in more than 65 educational programs; its principal affiliate is the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

• Must have specialized knowledge of the practice of Internal Medicine and proficiency in American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) competencies required.
• Board Certification in Internal Medicine preferred but board eligible is acceptable.
• Must have experience involving diagnosis and treatment of patients with problems or diseases in the outpatient and inpatient setting.
• Must have graduated from an accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) program to include an Internal Medicine residency program.
• Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).
• Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Possess and maintain at all times a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
• Possess and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Minimum one (1) year experience as a Hospitalist / Nocturnist in a hospital-based inpatient clinical activity.
