The role involves serving as the primary coordinator for managing daily patient throughput. The goal is to improve hospital throughput of emergency department admits, direct admits, and surgical admits. Increased inpatient bed utilization and reduced patient and bed turnaround delays are essential objectives. The individual will provide overall direction and coordination. Continuous communication throughout the shift is necessary to ensure all units and departments align with the plan. This position will facilitate a centralized bed management process. The individual will function as the operational lead for activities and patient flow during the assigned shift. Communication with leadership across departments is required. This role uniquely combines elements of nursing supervision, patient placement, capacity management, hospital operations, and throughput coordination. Unlike traditional management roles, this position serves as the central operational hub for patient flow across the organization. Key responsibilities include coordinating admissions, transfers, and patient placements across all levels of care. Managing hospital capacity and bed utilization to support patient throughput and access to care is vital. Close collaboration with the emergency department is needed to facilitate timely placement of admitted patients and reduce boarding times. The individual will coordinate ICU admissions, transfers, and downgrade opportunities. Supporting perioperative services with postoperative bed placement and capacity planning is also required. The nursing administrative resource role is critical during off-shifts, weekends, holidays, and periods of heightened operational demand. Leadership in capacity escalation efforts during census surges, throughput challenges, and operational constraints is essential. Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration among nursing units, physicians, case management, and executive leadership is necessary. Participation in and leading operational huddles focused on patient flow, capacity management, and patient safety is expected. The individual will respond to operational concerns, patient placement barriers, and situations requiring real-time decision-making and escalation. Supporting emergency preparedness, patient safety initiatives, and organizational throughput goals is also a key function. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence patient care and hospital operations at a systems level. The individual will work closely with leaders throughout the organization. A direct impact on patient access, capacity management, throughput performance, and the overall patient experience is expected.
