Adjunct Faculty - Geology The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to WWCC students enrolled in classes taught at the main campus in Rock Springs, or at an outreach center or high school in the Western Wyoming Community College district. Teaching a course over the Internet and/or teaching an evening course is also a common expectation. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community‑college environment and will teach courses in geology for majors and non‑majors. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provide quality instruction to students in assigned courses, which may include introductory geology for majors and non‑majors. Provide quality online geology lectures and laboratories. State clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follow the Curriculum Committee’s guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrate appropriate WWCC Goals for Student Success into each course; evaluate students’ performance in light of these objectives and criteria. Teach courses in a variety of environments and modes as required: courses may be offered in the fall, spring or summer semesters and on varying schedules (i.e., 8‑ or 16‑weeks), and may meet during the day, evening, weekend, or online in Rock Springs or at one of WWCC’s outreach centers. Design and implement effective learning processes for students; provide feedback on student improvement in attaining the College’s Learning Goals. Learn to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including e‑mail, calendar, and Canvas; integrate learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate. Refer students to resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Math Advancement Center, NetTutor, Wellbeing and Accessibility. Maintain an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in assigned areas; take prudent efforts to safeguard WWCC physical resources from unauthorized use; maintain safe working conditions and practices. Submit syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an MS in Geology, MA in Geosciences, or a related field, with at least 18 graduate‑level credit hours in geology or a closely related field. Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles, and practices of geology. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and administrators. Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student‑teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Geology. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, internet, or individualized modular programs. Demonstrated teaching excellence at a community college or university. Equivalency Statement: For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.
