Instrument Technician

Compensation $25.00 - $30.00 per hour (Non-Exempt) + Eligible for overtime pay at 1.5x hourly rate . About the Role WJH Engineering is seeking a Survey Instrument Technician to join our Survey team. In this hands‑on field role, you will support land surveying projects by operating modern survey equipment, collecting accurate field data, and assisting with daily survey operations. This opportunity is ideal for someone with experience in land surveying who enjoys working outdoors, is detail‑oriented, and wants to grow within a collaborative engineering environment. Responsibilities Operate and maintain survey instruments, GPS equipment, robotic total stations, and data collectors Assist with field data collection and land surveying activities Take accurate field notes and prepare sketches as needed Perform basic calculations and measurements Set survey stakes, hold rods, clear brush, and assist with field layout activities Maintain survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies Ensure accurate, timely, and complete completion of assigned tasks Support Survey Crew Chiefs and project teams on a variety of survey projects Perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications 2-3 years of land surveying or related field experience Specialized vocational training in Survey Technology or a related field preferred Understanding of land surveying principles and practices Experience using GPS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and related survey technology Strong mathematical, geometry, and trigonometry skills Ability to maintain accurate and organized field notes Valid driver's license with a good driving record High school diploma or equivalent required Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to walk construction sites, wooded areas, and uneven terrain Why Join WJH Engineering?
