Commercial Property Accountant

Position Title: Commercial Property Accountant

Take ownership of a commercial real estate portfolio while building the client-facing experience that can take your accounting career to the next level. A well-established commercial property management firm is seeking a Commercial Property Accountant to oversee the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of approximately eight properties. This role will manage day-to-day property accounting, month-end close, cash activity, budgeting, lender reporting, and year-end audit support while working directly with property managers and property owners.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of property accounting experience, a strong understanding of accrual-based accounting, and the confidence to communicate directly with owners, lenders, and internal stakeholders. Candidates coming from public accounting with a genuine interest in commercial real estate will also be considered.

Salary Range : $85,000 - $125,000 / Year, DOE

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of approximately eight commercial properties
• Record receipts and ACH activity, monitor bank accounts, and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity
• Review invoices and payments against property budgets, process checks and coordinate wires as needed
• Complete month-end close, including accruals, prepaid expenses, reconciliations, and budget-to-actual comparisons
• Ensure property taxes, mortgages, and other recurring financial obligations are processed accurately and on time
• Prepare financial reporting for property owners and lenders and participate in biweekly meetings with ownership
• Support annual budgeting, year-end audits, and coordination with outside accountants

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 3+ years of commercial property accounting experience preferred
• Public accounting experience combined with a strong interest in commercial real estate will also be considered
• Strong knowledge of accruals, prepaid expenses, financial reporting, and budgeting
• Experience with commercial property management or retail real estate strongly preferred
• Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft 365, with Yardi experience highly preferred
• CPA designation and exposure to tax accounting are a plus
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work tactfully and professionally with property owners, tenants, and other stakeholders
