Maintenance Mechanic, 2nd shift

Position Description Position Summary Join a team that keeps production moving. As a Maintenance Technician at Merrill Steel, you’ll help maintain reliable equipment, support efficient operations, and contribute to a safe, productive workplace. Your skills and ideas will make a meaningful difference every day. Second shift operates from 3:30 pm - 3:00 am, Monday - Thursday, Fridays are voluntary. No Saturdays or Sundays. Skills and Qualifications Organized and detail-oriented Clear communicator who works well with production teams and vendors Collaborative team player who can also work independently Strong mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities Basic electrical knowledge Able to manage several tasks and prioritize effectively Comfortable reading schematics and technical diagrams Responsibilities Maintain and repair heavy machinery, including CNC and Wheelabrator/blaster equipment Inspect facility equipment—including overhead cranes, chains, and bearings—and replace components when needed Complete hands‑on repairs such as welding, hose and whip repairs, hydraulic work, filter changes, basic machining, and electrical maintenance Keep accurate maintenance records using logs and spreadsheets, including Microsoft Excel You’ll work in a hands‑on production setting, with temperatures that may range from 50 to 100°F. Some work areas include paints, chemicals, welding fumes, and airborne particulates. Position Requirements The Maintenance Mechanic Entry position works for the maintenance department focusing on these tasks: Basic knowledge of industrial electrical circuitry Ability to operate cranes and forklift Make minor repairs of equipment Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance Arc and mig weld / cutting torch Basic Ability to perform general steel fabrication Pipefitting and plumbing repair minor One year experience Perform routine preventative maintenance Inspections while following routine checklists Basic machining skills Ability to operate cranes and forklift/manlift Arc and mig weld / cutting torch Advance Ability to read basic blueprints Repair or rebuild machines and controls Proficient in complex steel fabrication Intermediate knowledge of industrial electrical circuitry Experienced in pipefitting and plumbing repair Design & Installation Construct new operating equipment Supervise subordinates and convey instruction Advanced freehand machining skills Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment Diagnose mechanical problems Other Requirements Of The Job: Uses good judgement with job assignments and interpersonal skills Ability to identify problems and secure a reasonable resolution Maintains a consistent, positive, professional work ethic Ability to enforce policies and procedures and safety guidelines Ability to be a role model of quality workmanship and team attitude Teaches and communicates job functions in a way that others learn and are motivated Ability to assist and motivate others in job performance Accepts responsibility and takes accountability of work seriously Displays leadership qualities and ability Demonstrates good organizational skills Reliable, consistent work attendance is mandatory Ability to consistently maintain production levels

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to work in conditions of 50 degrees - 100 degrees. Not allergic to paints and chemicals in the department. Able to work in an environment that has paint and thinner fumes. Able to work in an environment that has some welding fumes.
