Student Trainee (Economist), CG(NTE 1 Year)

Summary

The Division of Insurance and Research (DIR) provides the public with a sound deposit insurance system by: providing comprehensive statistical information on banking; identifying and analyzing emerging risks; conducting research that supports sound deposit insurance banking policy improved risk assessment and consumer protection; and assessing the adequacy of the deposit insurance fund and implementing an effective and fair risk-based premium system.

Internship will begin Fall 2026.

Duties

• Performs research and compiles financial and economic information.
• Uses various computer software (e.g. spreadsheet database presentation mapping design and economic) to extract data and generate reports.
• Prepares draft summaries of financial and economic research data on existing and emerging issues.
• Maintains and updates various office files to include work papers data files and records.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic religious/spiritual; community; student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. (CG-04) Applicants must have completed:
- two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or obtained an associates degree; OR
- one (1) year of general experience in clerical office or other work responsibilities demonstrating the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR
- a combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

Combination of Education and Experience- Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.

Note: An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours 45 quarter hours or the equivalent in an accredited college or university. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

Education

A participant must be accepted for enrollment or are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma certificate etc.) in a qualifying educational institution or accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program Jobs Corps AmeriCorps and Peace Corps) on a full or half-time basis; have at least a cumulative(overall) 2.5 grade point average; and remain in good academic standing.

Additional information

FDIC employees work full-time in the office in collaboration with other staff at the location for which they are hired.

The duty location is determined upon selection.

All selectees must sign an FDIC Pathways Internship Participant Agreement.

Interns will be offered a salary at the base pay for the grade in which they are qualified and selected.

The range of pay shown includes base pay plus supplemental locality adjustments. The locality rates for these duty locations range from a low of 18.97% to a high of 51.75% . This appointment may be extended if interns continue to meet all educational and pathways requirements.
