Data Privacy Senior Attorney

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking a Mid to Senior‑Level Associate or Senior Counsel with at least five years’ experience specifically handling privacy and cybersecurity issues to help grow its Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group . Ideal Candidate Experience Reviewing, updating or drafting security policies Data breach prevention and risk mitigation counseling, including tabletop design and delivery Data breach investigation and response counseling In‑depth knowledge of regulatory framework for key international, federal and state privacy laws (including requirements of all effective and pending state consumer data privacy laws, PCI‑DSS, GLBA, HIPAA, and GDPR) Implementation of key components of privacy and security compliance programs Negotiation of complex information technology, licensing and outsourcing contacts, including privacy and data security clauses and key risk allocation issues such as indemnification and limitation on liability Advising clients in all industries on a wide variety of privacy and data security matters Advising on data governance strategies (retention, use policies, inventories, mapping) Addressing privacy and cybersecurity due diligence issues in M&A transactions Drafting company terms of service and website privacy policies Location We have offices in Wisconsin (Green Bay, Milwaukee, Madison, Waukesha); Illinois (Chicago); Utah (Salt Lake City); Colorado (Denver, Broomfield); Texas (Austin); North Carolina (Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington); California (Los Angeles); Nebraska (Lincoln) and Washington D.C. For Colorado applicants only (as required by the Colorado Equal Pay Act): The starting salary for associate positions in our Denver office is $190,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Associates are eligible to participate in Michael Best’s associate bonus program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions. This position is considered full‑time and is therefore eligible to participate in employer‑sponsored benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, as well as elective/voluntary life, disability, and accident coverage.
