Job Title: Basketball Referee II certified

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Basketball Referee will be responsible to assist in the daily operation of the program(s). Officiate at competitive athletic or sporting events. Detect infractions of rules and decide penalties according to established regulations. Includes all sporting officials, referees, and competition judges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Referee assigned game(s).
2. Enforce the rules and regulations of assigned game(s).
3. Assist site supervisor in maintaining orderly and fun atmosphere for assigned game(s).
4. Maintain game records and information as directed by supervisor.
5. Ensure safety is always a priority.
6. Know all emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
7. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary and submit them to supervisor.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
9. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
10. Other related duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of rules and regulations for assigned game/sport

• IAABO Certified (International Association of approved Basketball Officials)

• Previous experience with assigned game/sport
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activity
• Ability to adapt to changing working conditions
• Ability to work with diverse group of people
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to maintain order in a group of people
• Ability to accept comments/criticism from others without internalizing
• Ability to maintain professional conduct at all times
• YMCA Program Instructor Certification and experience preferred
• Certification in CPR/First Aid within 30 days of hire
• Excellent communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Ability to visibly observe children.
• Ability to stand for an extended period.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment from one location to another.
• Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
• Ability to communicate with parents and children effectively.
• Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.
• Ability to reason, solve problems and make sound decisions even when distracted by noise and activity.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
• Observe and promote safety and security procedures.
• Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
