Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator serves as a support to the Compliance & Project Manager, and will assist in inspecting work areas for safety and health hazards, observes working conditions, support in the designs and administration of safety and health programs to eliminate or reduce the risk of injury and illness, promotes the maintenance of teammate safety, and support in oversight to workers' compensation cases and support in training of personnel on company programs and initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Support in the development and maintenance of environmental health and safety programs and communication of those programs
  • Responsible for training personnel in companies' health and safety programs
  • Support in the development and implementation of emergency action plans and response
  • Assist in accident and incident prevention and investigation
  • Conduct site regulatory audits and inspections
  • Assist in corrective and preventive action required for compliance or to ensure a safe work environment
  • Assist in managing contractors including contractor orientation and oversight
  • Assist in new hire orientation
  • Support team members in the Job Safety Analysis, toolbox talks and permitting process
  • Supporting in maintaining incident reports and reporting tool, including OSHA reporting requirements and assist in communication of those incidents and lessons learned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree with a discipline of Occupational Safety or 5 years' experience
  • Experience in the following OSHA programs: Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Confined Space Permitting, Hot Work Permitting, Electrical Safety, Forklift (PIT) Training
  • Requires presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Strong teamwork and team building skills
  • Ability to be on call, when needed, to respond to emergency situations.
  • Fluent in English. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Clean driving record

Working Environment:

The Safety Coordinator is required to work both in an office environment and on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate frequently will be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat and/or cold. The teammate occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places, and has to the risk of exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls; reach with hands and arms; see, talk and/or hear. The teammate frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, sit, crouch, or crawl. The teammate will be required to walk at least 1 square mile of property during safety rounds, frequently traveling up and down stairs and other uneven work surfaces. The teammate is occasionally required to taste or smell. Teammates must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull, and balance up to 75 pounds.
