Applications/Systems Engineer, Principal

Position Description Tacoma Power's Power Management team seeks an Applications/Systems Engineer, Principal to support the Resource Operations & Trading group. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing computing and functional systems that enable 24/7 mission‑critical operations for resource portfolio optimization and wholesale energy trading. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive systems and software solutions for data collection, processing, and reporting; integrate third‑party solutions into existing architecture; write automated unit tests; review and update operating guides. Provide production support for internal and third‑party systems, including monitoring reliability, responding to production issues, and assisting users with data access and report development. Assess and implement methods for data sharing with other electric utilities, consortiums, regulatory bodies, and internal divisions. Learn and adopt new technologies for development, tool improvement, and meeting the functional needs of the Resource Operations & Trading group. Lead adoption of technology within the group and provide direction for technology strategy. Qualifications Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred or required). Minimum Experience: 5 years of software development, architecture, and database/data‑warehouse experience, including 1 year at senior, lead or supervisory level. Relevant education and experience may substitute for one another on a year‑for‑year basis. Washington State driver’s license or equivalent; additional background checks and certifications may be required depending on assignment.
