Groundskeeper

POSITION TITLE: Groundskeeper

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $13.79, Midpoint $17.24, Maximum $20.69

Primary Purpose:

Maintain safe, neat, and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification


High school diploma or GED, preferred


Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills


Ability to read and understand written instructions


Ability to communicate effectively


Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment


Ability to operate riding and power mower, power tools, and hand tools

Experience:


One year related experience and/or training with a clear driving record

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping

• Mow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.
• Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.
• Plant shrubs and vegetation.
• Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.
• Water grounds and apply fertilizer.
• Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
• Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.
• Transport workers and equipment to work sites.

Safety

• Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
• Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
• Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.

• Participate in professional learning, training programs, staff meetings, and special events as needed.

Communication

• Articulate the district's mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

• Tools/Equipment Used: Backhoe, trencher, grader blade, tractor, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator, light truck, and van
• Posture: Continual standing, walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, climbing, reaching
• Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension
• Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
• Environment : Work indoors and outdoors, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders, around moving objects and vehicles; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dampness, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noxious odors, loud noises; frequent district travel; occasional irregular and prolonged hours
