ACADEMIC TRANSPLANT SURGEON

Full Time

The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an outstanding academic, solid organ transplant surgeon with training in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation. Appointment rank must be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the clinical track, consistent with clinical experience. The ideal candidate will have expertise in liver transplant surgery.  

University of Iowa Health Care has supported a UNOS-approved solid organ transplant program for over 40 years, and the Iowa Health Care Organ Transplant Center (OTC) is recognized as a regional and national Center of Excellence (www.UIHealthcare.org/transplant). The OTC is a multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional collaboration between the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, University of Iowa Physicians practice group, and the Carver College of Medicine, designed to manage patients across the arc of their care in a single locus. This position joins the division at a pivotal point in a broader five-year strategic vision for significant multiorgan transplant volume growth across the University of Iowa Health Care and VA platforms.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to criminal background and credential check.

Candidates must hold MD, DO or equivalent degree.

Candidates must possess transplant training from an ASTS-approved liver transplant fellowship, preferably to include training in kidney and kidney-pancreas transplantation, as well as deceased and laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy.

Experience with advanced perfusion and DCD liver transplantation required.

Candidates must meet OPTN criteria to be the Primary Surgeon for Liver Transplant Programs

Candidate must provide appropriate documentation of meeting primary liver surgeon and, if able, living donor liver surgeon requirements as outlined in the OPTN Bylaws

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, be committed to ongoing performance improvement, and to providing care as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrated commitment to teaching, research, and clinical excellence is required.

Experience with living donor procedures, pediatric transplantation, robotic-assisted transplant and hepatobiliary surgery is desired.

Experience as a post-fellowship trained, attending liver transplant surgeon

Prior leadership experience in a transplant program

Experience in living donor liver transplantation

Experience with Normothermic Machine Perfusion & Normothermic Regional Perfusion

Interest and/or experience in robotic-assisted liver and kidney/pancreas transplant surgery
