Project POWER

Project POWER AmeriCorps is a national service initiative based in Asheville, North Carolina that strengthens the capacity of nonprofit organizations and community partners working to address food insecurity and related social determinants of health. Through strategic placements and collaborative partnerships, Project POWER members support organizations serving children, youth, and families who experience barriers related to access to food, housing stability, economic opportunity, and supportive services. The program focuses on building sustainable systems that expand access to resources, improve coordination of services, and strengthen community infrastructure to address persistent disparities across Western North Carolina.Rather than providing only direct service, members help partner organizations develop stronger systems, processes, and partnerships that allow services to reach more people more effectively.Project POWER AmeriCorps members serve at a diverse range of nonprofit organizations, community-based programs, and partner agencies addressing food insecurity and social determinants of health. Members work alongside organizational leadership and staff to assess current systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement sustainable solutions. Service activities may include developing volunteer recruitment and retention strategies, improving coordination of food distribution programs, strengthening partnerships between community organizations, enhancing outreach strategies to reach underserved populations, and supporting implementation of data tracking systems that measure impact and guide program development. Member Duties : Assist in developing or improving program systems that increase access to foodSupport creation of program materials, workflows, and documentation toolsImprove coordination between partner organizations addressing food insecurity and related needsSupport development of partnerships among community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and food access programsAssist with outreach activities that increase awareness of available resourcesHelp coordinate collaborative initiatives that address social determinants of healthDevelop or improve volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and tracking systemsSupport implementation of tools that improve volunteer engagement and retentionAssist with creation of training materials or orientation resources for volunteers Program Benefits : Childcare assistance if eligible,Stipend,Training,Professional Development,Health Coverage,Education award upon successful completion of service.
