Electrical Estimator

Electrical Estimator – Middleton, WI This role focuses on developing accurate, competitive, and profitable estimates while building strong client relationships and supporting business growth. The estimator is accountable for evaluating project requirements, preparing complete bid packages, and supporting projects from initial pursuit through turnover to operations. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Preconstruction Review drawings, specifications, RFPs, and basis of design documents to determine full project scope Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and labor projections Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations Develop complete and accurate cost estimates using estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Conest) Identify scope gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities Participate in bid strategy and margin discussions Prepare and assemble all bid deliverables and submission documents Sales & Client Engagement Conduct client meetings (virtual and in‑person) to understand project needs Present proposals and clearly communicate scope, assumptions, and value Follow up on proposals and actively work to close opportunities Build and maintain long‑term client relationships Identify and pursue new business opportunities Project Support & Execution Support project handoff to operations with clear scope definition Remain engaged through project lifecycle to ensure alignment with estimate Assist with change order pricing and scope review Coordinate with production and scheduling teams on project timelines Track awarded vs. estimated performance to improve future accuracy Business & Process Improvement Maintain up‑to‑date labor units and material pricing Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools Support business development and marketing initiatives Ensure consistency and accuracy across all estimates Customer Experience Follow up with clients post‑proposal (7, 30, 90, 365 days) Ensure customer satisfaction and identify repeat business opportunities Qualifications Education & Experience 3+ years of electrical project estimating required 5+ years of commercial & industrial electrical estimating preferred Experience in project management is strongly preferred Licensed electrician preferred but not required Proven track record of estimating success and/or sales performance Valid driver’s license Technical Skills Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and industry standards Proficiency in estimating software (Accubid, Conest, or similar) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents Core Competencies Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills High attention to detail and accuracy Effective communication and negotiation skills Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously Strong organizational and time‑management skills Performance Expectations Accuracy of estimates vs. actual project cost Hit rate on bids and proposals Margin performance on awarded projects Timeliness of bid delivery Client satisfaction and repeat business Benefits 401(k) matching Company car Company parties Competitive salary Dental insurance Employee discounts Health insurance Opportunity for advancement Paid time off Training & development Vision insurance Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the workday.
