Job Purpose and Objectives: Responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment related to road and bridge maintenance and construction. Essential Functions: Operates heavy equipment such as a motor grader, roller, blacktop machine, chip spreader, compactor, and other heavy equipmentBreaks up asphalt on roads needing repair or replacementCuts, lays, and covers pipeDigs, compacts, and covers trenches for disposal of refusePerforms finished grading operationsSpreads gravel, sand, rock, and asphaltPatches road and bridge surfacesPerforms bridge maintenance work such as mowing road ditches, installing and maintaining culverts, and filling washoutsRebuilds roads and bridgesSets up and picks up construction cones and signsPerforms light maintenance and servicing of work in connection with the operations of related equipmentHauls rock, asphalt, and sandEnforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinancesPerforms other duties as assigned or deemed necessaryComplies with all organizational and departmental policies and proceduresOperates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or neededProtects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
