Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - Urology - San Diego, CA

Position Overview A fast-paced urology clinic in San Diego County is seeking an experienced, active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join their team. This role covers a high volume of 12 to 15 patients daily plus urgent add-ons, running independent clinical procedures, assisting physicians with invasive treatments, and conducting phone nurse triage. The ideal candidate thrives in a rapid environment, possesses sharp critical thinking skills, and demonstrates expert catheter placement proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Procedures: Perform independent urodynamics (UDS) testing for bladder control and neurodynamics; manage insertion, removal, and maintenance of catheters; clean and replace pessaries every 6 weeks.

• Medication & Injections: Administer targeted injections, including testosterone, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer treatments.

• Physician Assistance: Assist physicians with invasive prostate procedures and specialized exams; set up instruments and maintain strict sterile technique.

• Triage & Care Coordination: Handle phone nurse triage for post-surgical complications, relay instructions/results to patients and families, and manage incoming/outgoing medical records, lab reports, and imaging notes.

• Patient Flow & Prep: Accompany patients to rooms, assist with transfers, gather patient histories, perform screenings, and manage electronic charting.

• EHR & Operations: Clean, sanitize, and autoclave instruments; maintain equipment and crash carts; manage inventory, restock rooms, and ensure compliance with infection control protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license.

• Strong proficiency and complete comfort with catheter placement and removal.

• Demonstrated ability to move quickly across a high patient volume.

• Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior clinical experience in Urology.

• Hands-on experience with Athena EMR.

Schedule

• Full-Time (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)

• Fixed Floating Locations:

  • M/W/F: Rancho Bernardo Office

  • T/Th: Chula Vista Office

Compensation

• Dependent on experience - $35 - 39 + hourly
