Medical Assistant

Terms of Employment: 10 months/ 187 days per year. Salary is at Instructional Support Pay Grade IS3 on the EISD Compensation Plan. Entry level rate of pay is $16.53/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience. Please open attachment for full job description.

Primary Purpose

To assist and promote Edgewood ISD in implementing a comprehensive school health program. To assist the school nurse (RN/LVN) in the delivery of safe, effective health care to the students of EISD therefore providing every possible educational opportunity.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
• Current CPR/AED Certification
• Applicants must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant, before continuing within the process towards possible employment

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of basic first aid, recording vital signs, preparing, and administering medications.
• Strong knowledge of computers and health records documentation.
• Ability to perform other routine clinical and administrative duties.

Experience

• A minimum of 16-18 months of experience in school or community health, home health, clinic/hospital and working with children.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Work under the guidance and supervision of a designated RN/LVN.

2. Communicate findings to supervising RN/LVN for direction.

3. Dispense medication under the guidance of the school Nurse according to district policies and within the parameters of the Nurse Practice Act and Board of Nursing Rules.

4. Ensure adequate supplies and equipment for the health office through good inventory practice.

5. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students enrolled at their respective campus(es).

6. Assist the school health programs of immunization, vision, hearing, scoliosis screening which require a certification from the State of Texas. 1 7. Assist the School Nurse in the development and dissemination of health-related information.

8. Attend training related to school health or as designated by the school principal.

9. Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

Ability to work under stress, meet deadlines and may need to work alone at times.

Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; work with frequent interruptions, moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.

Equipment Used

Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, audiometer, otoscope, vision screening equipment, basic clinic equipment, telephone, computer, copier, scanner, and fax machine.
