Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Patient Care: Verifies proper clinician order for procedure. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for administration of contrast media to prevent patient condition deterioration. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities as needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations for physician intervention when necessary. Verifies correct identity of patient using two unique identifiers prior to performing procedure. Ensures patient privacy and comfort throughout the exam. Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule and time to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection. Uses critical thinking skills and asks clarifying questions as needed. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. Preps the patient for the procedure and demonstrates sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Equipment: Adjusts technique to minimize radiation doses while maintaining image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor so that issues can be resolved timely. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policies. Education and Communication: Patiently explains the purpose and nature of exams to minimize patient anxiety. Addresses patient questions, concerns, or contraindications satisfactorily. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Documentation is concise, legible, and uses precise terminology. Completes mandatory departmental education without prompting. Quality Control: Consistently produces acceptable images as evidenced by feedback and audits. Ensures equipment is fully operational by checking for calibration and operating deficiencies. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion. Completes all studies in RIS before finishing in PACS. Operations: Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderly department. Transports and positions patients, aiding them on and off the procedure table. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices and equipment. Willingly assists others as needed to enhance departmental efficiency. Performs clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and quality of services. Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities and potential issues. Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to co-workers. Operates all workstations associated with the department. Maintains Joint Commission standards and other regulatory standards. Takes call when necessary and performs other duties as assigned. Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. Understands anatomy and pathology related to procedure quality. Competent to perform all recommended Quality Control tests.
