Senior Software Engineer

As an engineer, you'll be working in our core game engine, contributing to the technical vision and making improvements to our audio simulation platform and authoring tools. Challenges will include providing creators with sophisticated tools to let them easily generate custom and sometimes never-before-heard sound effects, and automatically synthesizing compelling realistic sound for a 3D world based on physics or the contents of the world. If you are excited about creating new technology to support these use cases and making sure it scales to millions of concurrent users, this is the job for you!

You Have:

• Experience: 5+ years delivering projects that include complex user workflows. Skilled at performance tuning, debugging, and fixing production problems.
• Domain Knowledge: Experience with Android, iOS, and Windows.
• Versatility: Adaptability to any situation and the ability to come up with the right solution.
• Keen interest in developing audio expertise (professional audio experience not required).
• Creativity: Strategic and creative approach to solving hard problems.
• Professionalism: Pride in delivering a high‑quality product and user experience.
• Skills:
  • C++ programming
  • Experience designing, refining, and tuning algorithms
  • Troubleshooting bugs and performance issues
• Background: BS in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
• Bonus: Console programming (PlayStation, Xbox, etc.)
• Bonus: Familiarity with React or other declarative UI frameworks.
• Bonus: Audio theory and algorithm experience.
• Bonus: Systems‑level Bluetooth experience.
• Bonus: Experience working on a product used at a massive scale.
• Bonus: Server experience or experience designing or interacting with server APIs.
• Bonus: Experience with neighboring domains such as Computer Graphics or Physics.

You Will:

• Develop new functionality, pipelines, and workflows, and enhance existing ones.
• Help implement our next generation real‑time immersive audio simulation platform.
• Adapt performance for the best quality on all platforms from low‑end phones to high‑end desktops.
• Apply research efforts into the Roblox products.
• Collaborate with different teams to deliver innovative new features.
• Be guided by the company vision to put the Roblox community first.

For roles based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA, the starting base pay is $242,100—$293,800 USD. Salary depends on factors such as background, training, experience, location, business needs, and market demand. Employees are also eligible for equity compensation and benefits as described on this page.

Roles based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
