Director, Behavioral Health Services

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Behavioral Health Services for a mission-driven nonprofit organization providing social and behavioral health services throughout San Diego County. This is a full-time, exempt, onsite position based in National City, CA, with some work at additional sites throughout San Diego County.

POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Director of Behavioral Health Services will provide senior-level leadership and oversight for the organization's behavioral health and social service programs, ensuring high-quality, effective, and mission-aligned services. This leader will oversee program operations, support staff and organizational development, and drive continued excellence across behavioral health services. The ideal candidate brings strong executive-level management experience within social services and a passion for advancing accessible, impactful community-based care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization's behavioral health services and social service programs.
• Oversee program effectiveness, service quality, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
• Lead, mentor, and support behavioral health program staff while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
• Develop and implement program strategies, policies, and initiatives that strengthen service delivery and organizational outcomes.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and internal stakeholders on program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
• Represent the organization and its behavioral health services with external partners, community stakeholders, and other relevant organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, social services, behavioral health, or a related field required; master's degree preferred.
• Demonstrated success in senior or executive-level management of social service programs and services.
• Strong leadership, program management, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.
• Experience overseeing behavioral health or community-based social service programs strongly preferred.
• A valid California professional license such as LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC is preferred.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:


The anticipated salary range for this position is $115,000-$130,000 , with some flexibility based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. Additional benefits and organizational offerings will be discussed during the interview process.
