Wood is recruiting for a Finance Lead to join our Onshore Projects business in Houston, TX. Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this role will lead finance and accounting activities for the Onshore Projects division and manage a small team.

The Role

The Finance Lead will serve as the primary finance focal point for the Onshore Projects division, leading month-end close, project accounting, forecasting, margin analysis, revenue recognition, and financial reporting activities. The role will partner closely with Project Controls, Project Managers, business leadership, and auditors to ensure accurate financial information, appropriate project accounting, and effective financial controls.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary Finance focal point supporting the Onshore Projects division and lead a small team of accountants

• Lead month-end close activities, including revenue and cost accruals, gross margin analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation and presentation of month-end financial packages

• Review commercial agreements, agreed rates, and required approvals to ensure appropriate financial accounting

• Provide project accounting support during project kick-off meetings and monthly project review meetings

• Work with Project Controls to ensure projects are appropriately structured to capture contractual requirements, including lump sum contracts, revenue recognition points, and billing milestones

• Review project costs and record necessary accruals for missing costs to maintain accurate project margins

• Review variation orders and potential variation orders, confirming appropriate accounting based on their status and probability of client award

• Ensure revenue recognition and billing milestones are appropriately accounted for and aligned with project requirements

• Maintain visibility of project costs, pass-through costs, unbilled amounts, and billing activities to support timely financial reporting and invoicing

• Perform margin analysis, including cost rate versus sell rate and mix and volume variance analysis

• Prepare full-project forecasts through completion and compare projected results against the original "as sold" position

• Perform contingency analysis and ensure contingency releases or increases are appropriately reflected in project accounting

• Prepare budgets and forecasts for assigned service lines

• Lead engagement with internal and external auditors to successfully complete relevant audits

Expected:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field

• Professional qualification in Accounting (CA) required; CPA or CMA designation an asset

• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with a proven track record in full-cycle accounting, ideally within an engineering consultancy or oil and gas project environment

• Experience working with ERP systems, including Oracle and EPM/FCC

• Strong numerical and analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs

• Strong understanding of project accounting principles, revenue recognition, cost accounting, and financial reporting

• Excellent time-management skills with the ability to meet month-end reporting deadlines

• Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality monthly reports

• Ability to organize and provide timely financial information to stakeholders and Project Managers

• Proven ability to explain and influence the application of project accounting principles with non-finance personnel

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of professionals in a team environment

Desirable:

• Master's degree

• Experience leading or supervising a small accounting team

• Experience supporting engineering, energy, or oil and gas projects
