GROUP FACILITATOR

POSITION PURPOSE:The Group Facilitator is responsible for planning and leading group sessions that support participants in achieving shared objectives. This role guides group discussions and activities, manages group dynamics, and fosters a collaborative, inclusive environment where all participants feel empowered to contribute. Key responsibilities include organizing and leading sessions to meet defined goals, facilitating open discussion while navigating varying perspectives, maintaining an environment that encourages participation from all members, monitoring group progress and adjusting the facilitation approach as needed, resolving conflicts or disruptions professionally, and summarizing outcomes with appropriate follow-up. The Group Facilitator plays a key role in ensuring sessions are productive, engaging, and aligned with organizational or program goals.POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:At a minimum, a High School Diploma or GED is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, though relevant experience may be considered as a substitute.If hold only a high school diploma or bachelor’s degree, minimum certification in a related field is required as outlined in Section 3.If hold a master’s degree in a clinical field (e.g., social work, family counseling, or a related discipline), certification is not required (exception SUD Maine).Must have two years of continuous sobriety prior to hire, if recovering from a substance use disorder and participate in a self-help program.EXPERIENCE:Preferably a minimum of 2 years experience with chemical dependency and/or dual diagnosed clients, preferably in an out-patient setting.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:CPR Certification preferredMinimum certification in a field related to the services being provided is required unless holds a master’s degree in a clinical field (e.g., social work, family counseling, or a related discipline), in which case certification is not required.SUD Maine specific requirement:Minimum of an ADCA requiredSKILLS /ABILITIES:General knowledge of addictions and mental health complications.General knowledge of addictions and mental health disordersGeneral knowledge of the 12-Step Recovery Program and the role of peer support in mental health recoveryKnowledge and competency in problem solving, stress management, ethics and team building.Ability to recognize signs of distress and threats to safety among group participantsKnowledge of trauma informed care practices and ability to implement them during groupsGeneral knowledge of alcohol, other drugs, and mental health disorders thatAlcohol, addictive drugs, and/or mental health disorders and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual.How substance use disorders and mental health disorders impact an individual's familyUnderstanding the spectrum of mental health disorders and the ability to tailor the group experience to meet the needs of diversely impaired clientsAbility to determine if a medical or psychiatric emergency exists and to take appropriate action, when necessary.Knowledge of emergency procedures used in case of alcohol and/or drug overdose and acute mental health crisis/risk of harm to self or othersKnowledge of the stages of alcohol and other drug withdrawals and ability to take appropriate action at each stage.Knowledge of Federal, State and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, including:ConfidentialityClient RightsProfessional Code of EthicsDiscriminationKnowledge of airborne and blood borne pathogens (TB, HIV, AIDS, HB) and risk reduction methodologies and the use of universal precautions.Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description which are related to work as a member of an addiction treatment teamAGE SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS SERVED/ RESPONSIBILITY:Adults or adolescentsOTHER QUALIFICATIONS:Familiar with community resourcesSPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITIONDemonstrate knowledge of chemical dependency and addictions and utilize knowledge and skills to access and meet the client’s treatment needs and requirements.Document as required in client chart.Conduct process groups, educational, chemical dependency, and other groups as assigned.Ability to work as a team member, demonstrating maturity under stress and objectivity.Demonstrate good communication skills.Perform in a professional manner and role models a positive image of substance use.Report abuses of clients’ rights immediately.Participate in obtaining the client’s informed consent for procedures, treatments, and research, as appropriate.Act decisively and effectively in managing staff, clients, and other employees during emergency situations.Protect the privacy of all client information in accordance with GRNH, LLC’s privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principle of professionalism as a healthcare provider. Failure to comply with the company’s policies and procedures on client privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.May access protected health information (PHI) and other patent information only to the extent that it is necessary to complete your job duties. The incumbent may only share such information with those who have a specific client information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other GRNH, LLC operations.Expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding GRNH, LLC’s policies and procedures on client privacy and any observed practices in violation of the policy to their supervisor.Perform other capacities as needed.Maine Specific:14.
