Diesel Technician

Position Description Ryder is hiring a Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Hampton, Virginia – providing a stable company for your career with weekly pay and excellent benefits. Compensation and Schedule Hourly Pay: $25.00 per hour Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification (up to $700 total) Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter Schedule: Monday–Friday, Weekends OFF Hours: First Shift 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Benefits Medical, dental, vision after 30 days 80 hours PTO in the first year, starting Day 1 Yearly merit pay increases 401(k) company match PPE, uniforms, and boot allowance Paid training that keeps you ahead Safety‑first workplace & State‑of‑the‑art equipment Top Tech Competition: Earn $250 – $50,000 per year U.S. military veterans – extra paid day off 15% company stock discount Up to $5,000 in tech tuition repayment 12 weeks paid maternity leave (eligible by tenure) Employee discounts on tools, vehicles, travel, tech & more Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (preferred) Vocational or technical certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred) Basic tools required Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gasoline or diesel engines, including: Routine preventative maintenance (e.g., oil changes, brake and tire work) Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience (preferred) Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred) Ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background & motor vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification for the last 3 years) Responsibilities Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections Perform preventive maintenance Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers as needed Identify root cause of basic failures and perform required repairs Replace defective components as instructed Perform facility maintenance duties Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints when assigned a task Utilize shop management system and electronic documentation Comply with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT) Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support EEO Statement Ryder is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and a drug‑free workplace.
