Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Test Technician to support research and development projects through laboratory testing, product verification, and electrical compliance testing. This role focuses on testing variable frequency drives (VFDs), verifying product performance, and ensuring compliance with applicable UL, CSA, and IEC standards.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience conducting electrical compliance tests, working with laboratory instrumentation, interpreting technical drawings, and documenting test results. Candidates must have a background in electrical or electronic engineering and experience in a laboratory or product development environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support engineers with product development, component evaluation, prototype assembly, and design verification testing.
• Perform safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing in accordance with UL, CSA, and IEC standards, particularly for VFD products.
• Execute product and prototype tests according to approved specifications and procedures.
• Analyze test results and verify compliance with product performance and safety requirements.
• Prepare and maintain accurate test reports, data records, and technical documentation.
• Build, assemble, and maintain electrical test setups and fixtures, including mechanical construction and electrical wiring.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and electronic circuits using schematics and engineering guidance.
• Perform precision soldering on surface-mount components, including 1206, 0805, 0603, and 0402 packages.
• Set up and operate laboratory instruments, including digital multimeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, power meters, thermometers, and LabVIEW-based systems.
• Collect, record, and interpret accurate test measurements.
• Assist with ISO/IEC 17025 audits and laboratory accreditation assessments involving UL and SGS.
• Travel to domestic and international accredited testing facilities as required for certification activities.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, facilities, and work areas in a safe and operational condition.
• Follow established engineering procedures, company safety policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain high standards of testing quality and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Education and Experience — one of the following:
• • Associate degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• More than one year of hands-on experience performing UL, CSA, and IEC compliance testing for variable frequency drive (VFD) products.
• Working knowledge of VFD design, operation, and electrical characteristics.
• Previous experience working in an electrical laboratory, R&D lab, or product development environment.
• Proficiency in operating laboratory test equipment and interpreting test measurements.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, technical drawings, and test specifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for reporting and documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
• Willingness to learn, develop new technical skills, and work collaboratively with engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with electrical safety and EMC compliance testing.
• Familiarity with VFD products and industrial electrical equipment.
• Experience with LabVIEW-based testing and data acquisition systems.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditation requirements.
• Familiarity with third-party certification processes and technical reporting.

Work Environment and Expectations

• Fully onsite position in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
• Occasional travel of up to 15% annually, depending on project requirements.
• Ability to work effectively in a laboratory and product development environment.
• Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
• Candidates should be comfortable following laboratory procedures and maintaining focus during technical testing activities.
