Database Administrator

This is a hybrid position in Buffalo, NY (must reside in or near Buffalo, NY). Must be able to work on W2 without sponsorship. No 3rd party agencies. Cloud Database Administrator responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the organization’s cloud and SQL data environments. This role oversees Azure Databricks, SQL Server, and broader cloud data infrastructure, driving operational excellence through proactive monitoring, governance, automation, and best‑practice implementation. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong problem‑solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to maintaining a stable, scalable, and secure data ecosystem. Responsibilities Administer Azure Databricks workspaces, clusters, pools, permissions, and configuration Implement governance, access controls, secrets management, and workspace policies Optimize compute usage through autoscaling, cluster policies, and cost monitoring Monitor performance of Databricks jobs, SQL warehouses, and underlying storage Tune clusters, SQL environments, and pipelines to ensure high availability Maintain observability using SQL Server, Databricks Metrics, and monitoring/alerting platforms Troubleshoot cluster performance issues, job failures, permissions, and integration points Partner with data engineering and development teams to resolve environment‑level issues Implement platform‑wide security standards (SQL roles, Azure RBAC, network rules, Unity Catalog) Support compliance and governance across cloud data services and SQL Server environments Diagnose and resolve database‑related issues Collaborate with IT to minimize operational disruptions Maintain documentation for environments, policies, network architecture, data access patterns, and cluster standards Experience SQL Server administration, SQL Agent jobs, index maintenance, and performance monitoring Cloud computing, IaaS, and cloud networking concepts Monitoring/observability tools: SolarWinds, Azure Monitor Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data lifecycle Experience with analytics platforms: Power BI, Tableau #J-18808-Ljbffr
