Position Overview Patient Care Associate – Duke Primary Care – Brier Creek – Family Medicine At Duke Health, we are committed to compassionate care that changes the lives of patients, their loved ones, and the greater community. Duke Primary Care provides family, adolescent, internal medicine, urgent, general pediatric, and virtual care services at nearly 50 clinic locations across central North Carolina. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and participate in daily clinic preparation processes, patient identification, check‑in/out, charge posting, cash management, and appointment scheduling—including customer service, message distribution, ancillary scheduling, and referrals management. Prepare for clinic visits by reviewing next‑day patients, completing preparation activities, entering pre‑visit orders, and preparing new patient charts. Collect X‑rays, office charts, medical records, reports, petty cash, and collections bags. File history sheets, ancillary reports, and all required patient record documentation. Return medical records and attach HIPAA/Medicare documents to encounter forms. Check in patients upon arrival, verify and edit patient information in Maestro Care, and accurately identify the appropriate account for the visit. Educate patients on required forms, obtain signatures as required by policy, and complete all Maestro Care check‑in files and alerts. Collect and post co‑payments and balances on accounts due. Imprint patient‑specific chart documents, requisitions, and transmittal documents. Copy, file, and distribute insurance cards as indicated by procedure. Coordinate all labs/procedures as requested and maintain private physician office charts. Prepare encounter forms, investigate and account for missing forms, audit for completeness and accuracy before batching, and batch or charge‑post in Maestro Care. Schedule tests, procedures, and return appointments, ensuring correct appointment type and provider information. Answer telephone calls, deliver messages to physicians, nurses, and others, and report patient and referral information accurately, completely, and timely. Disseminate messages according to practice communication standards. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong verbal and written communication; basic PC and data entry skills; knowledge of medical terminology and telephone etiquette; ability to organize and prioritize work, provide clear instructions, interact tactfully with customers, and establish and maintain effective relationships. Must apply departmental policies, rules, and regulations related to verifying patient information, collecting payments, and maintaining records and forms. Qualifications Education : High‑school level knowledge of basic grammar and mathematics. Experience : Minimum one year of direct communication and service to patients or the public, preferably in a healthcare setting; experience coordinating multiple tasks or activities.
