The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for Truck Driver. The purpose of this position is the safe and efficient operation of medium trucks to heavy equipment for transporting materials to and from work sites. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential tasks include driving trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, flatbed trucks, and dump trucks; operating chain saws; transporting construction and demolition materials such as stone, gravel, sand, and limbs to and from work sites; maintaining a log of work performed; performing pre-trip vehicle inspection as preventive maintenance; compiling equipment order to report malfunctions; assisting in loading materials; re-directing traffic as needed; reporting vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles; following safety standards developed by the County; and performing related work as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of specialized training in truck driving. One (1) year of experience in the operation of vehicles and equipment such as trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, flatbed trucks, and dump trucks or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is also required.

Physical demands involve performing sedentary work that includes walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. These include routine and frequent exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, and moving machinery.

Special certifications and licenses include possessing and maintaining a valid state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
