SSBCI Tribal Program Support Specialist
University of Alaska Fairbanks
The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized professional to serve as SSBCI Tribal Operations Specialists. This position plays a key role in supporting the administration of the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) Tribal program, with a focus on program operations, data management, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
As the SSBCI Tribal Program Support Specialist, you will exercise independent judgment and initiative in managing time-sensitive and confidential assignments while supporting program operations and strategic initiatives. This role requires strong critical thinking, organizational, and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize workloads, manage multiple deadlines, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include researching and analyzing program-related issues, compiling reports, recommending process improvements, and assisting with the implementation of operational changes, particularly related to the NeoSerra database and internal policies and procedures. The position also involves providing technical assistance, redesigning administrative systems as needed, and training staff on updated processes and systems. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, and presentation skills, along with the ability to work under pressure, maintain professionalism, and clearly communicate project status. Occasional travel and attendance at meetings outside normal business hours may be required.
To thrive in this position, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. They will have experience working with databases and electronic file management systems, with the ability to ensure accuracy, consistency, and data integrity for reporting and compliance purposes. Success in this role requires the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, and to build effective working relationships with internal staff, lenders, partners, and stakeholders. The candidate should be comfortable responding to inquiries, coordinating across multiple parties, and supporting program operations with a high level of customer service. Experience working in compliance-driven environments—such as federally funded programs, lending, finance, or within university or government systems—is highly beneficial. Familiarity with reporting processes, data tracking, and development of program materials or communications is also advantageous. The ideal candidate will be proactive, resourceful, and capable of working independently while exercising sound judgment. Experience with tools such as Google Workspace, database systems, and reporting platforms is preferred. A working knowledge of small business concepts, loan programs, or lending practices is helpful. Familiarity with Alaska’s geography, rural and remote communities, and experience working with Tribal organizations, Alaska Native corporations, or other community-based organizations is beneficial.
